Sarpagandha
Sarpagandha is considered as one of the best-known medicinal herbs in the world. It is widely grown in India on a variety of soils from sea level up to 1200m altitude. The plant is an erect, evergreen sub-shrub. This plant is 0.2m to 0.6 m tall. The stem has no branch and has irregularly longitudinally fissured, pale brown and corky bark. It is propagated through seeds and rooted nursery plants.

General characteristics
Sarpagandha is very common throughout India and the Himalayas. In India, it is abundantly seen in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, MP, and North East regions. It is also reported in China and South East Asia. It is an erect under-shrub. The leaves are 7-10 cm long, spear-shaped. The flowers are 1 inch long, white and pink. It contains nectar at the deep of the corolla tube. The blooming time is in the month of August and September. The root is branched and tuberous.
